Archiving Policy

Worldwide Journal of Physics (WWJoP) is committed to the long-term preservation and perpetual accessibility of its digital archives. This policy outlines the steps that WWJoP will take to ensure the preservation of its digital content in accordance with recognized international standards and best practices.

Scope of the Policy

This policy applies to all digital content published by WWJoP, including:

  • Research articles.

  • Review articles.

  • Short communications.

  • Letters to the editor.

  • Supplementary materials.

  • Editorial correspondence.

Preservation Strategy

WWJoP will preserve its digital content using a variety of methods, including:

  • Migrating content to newer storage media as needed.

  • Maintaining multiple backup copies of content in geographically distributed locations.

  • Using checksums and other data integrity verification methods to ensure the authenticity and completeness of content over time.

  • Storing content in secure, environmentally controlled locations.

To guarantee permanent archival, WWJoP deposits all published content with the following leading digital preservation services:

  • CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS): A secure, distributed preservation archive where libraries and publishers collaborate to ensure the long-term survival of web-based scholarly publications.

  • LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe): A decentralized digital preservation system based on the "lots of copies keep stuff safe" principle, ensuring redundant, persistent archiving.

  • PKP Preservation Network (PN): A dedicated, distributed preservation service provided by the Public Knowledge Project to ensure the long-term preservation of journals using Open Journal Systems (OJS) and other open-access content.

Access to Preserved Content

WWJoP will make preserved content freely available to the public. Access to preserved content will be provided through WWJoP's website. In the unlikely event that WWJoP ceases operation, the content archived with CLOCKSS, LOCKSS, and PKP PN will be made freely available to the global scholarly community through these preservation networks, ensuring no research is ever lost.

Responsibilities

The following individuals and organizations are responsible for the implementation of this policy:

  • The WWJoP editorial team is responsible for ensuring that all digital content is properly submitted for archiving.

  • The WWJoP IT team is responsible for maintaining the technical infrastructure that supports the preservation of digital content and managing the archiving process with external partners.

  • The WWJoP publishing partner/library is responsible for coordinating with CLOCKSS, LOCKSS, PKP PN, and other archival services to ensure seamless and ongoing digital preservation.

Review and Revision

This policy will be reviewed and revised on a regular basis to ensure that it remains current with evolving best practices in digital preservation and the services of our archiving partners.
